Cristiano Ronaldo is going after two records at the Club World Cup

The Portuguese striker wants to become the top scorer in the history of the competition.

Currently, he shares top spot with Luis Suarez, Lionel Messi and Cesar Delgado.

All four players have five goals to their name, although the Uruguayan striker got them in just two matches. Ronaldo and Delgado needed six matches and Messi, five.

If the new Ballon d’Or winner finds the back of the net against Al Jazira, he will become the solitary leading goalscorer. In the case of a victory and passage to the final, he will have another opportunity.

The other challenge for Ronaldo is related to the trophy for the best player at the Club World Cup. The Real Madrid striker won the award in 2016, while Messi has two to his name, making him the player with the most wins.

Sergio Ramos came away with the trophy in 2014, so he will be hoping to overtake Ronaldo and equal Messi with the honour this year. In any case, the focus will be on CR7 during the competition in Abu Dhabi.
