Group A: Egypt World Cup Betting Odds & Tips

Egypt will be appearing in a World Cup for the first time in 18 years in Russia this summer and they have every chance of qualifying from Group A due to a certain Mohamed Salah.

Egypt last appeared in the major tournament back in 1990 as they exited at the group stage, taking just two points from a possible nine, but the nation has vastly improved since that outing in Italy.

The Pharaohs have won the Africa Cup of Nations a further four times – in 1998, 2006, 2008 and 2010 – making them the most successful team in the history of the competition with seven titles.

Hector Cuper, who took charge in 2015, oversaw an impressive qualification campaign for the event in Russia, winning four of the six group matches to help the team finish top by a comfortable four points.

There was one player who was absolutely integral to those victories and that is none other than Liverpool forward Salah, who scored five of the eight qualifying goals.

The 25-year-old has been in outstanding form for the Reds since moving to Anfield from Roma last summer, scoring 18 goals from 22 Premier League appearances and bagging six from eight in the Champions League.

Stoke City’s Ramadan Sobhi, who has scored one international goal from 20 caps, also possesses great quality and he could play a crucial role for Egypt, who are 6.00 to win Group A.

Both Ahmed Hassan Kouka and Amr Gamal, who play for Braga and Bidvest Wits respectively, have showcased their ability on both the domestic and international stage and they have the potential to have a big say in this tournament.

At the back, Egypt have great experience in the form of vice-captain Ahmed Fathy, who has 123 caps, whilst Aston Villa’s Ahmed El Mohamady, who is well-known for his time in the Premier League, has 75 caps.

Egypt open up with a clash against Uruguay and the Pharaohs are 5.25 to win, a draw is priced at 3.60 while La Celeste are 1.67 favourites.
