Luis Suarez played his 100th La Liga game for Barca on saturday.
Suarez has now played 100 La Liga games for the Spanish giants since arriving from Liverpool in 2014 and his energy, aggression and goal return have helped Barcelona to two League crowns, three Copa del Rey’s and one Champions League title since.
His 100th game was much like the 99 before it, he was a constant nuisance for the Girone defence, always questioned the officials’ decisions and fumed when things did not go his way.
However, the striker’s willingness to work for the team never dropped and he was on hand to mark the occasion with a goal in the Catalan derby.
The return of 87 goals in a century of games can only be bettered by Cristiano Ronaldo, who scored 111 after sealing his move from Manchester United.
Despite an incredible record and consistent performances, the new campaign could be his hardest in a Barcelona shirt yet.
Neymar’s sale to PSG completely changed the dynamic of the attacking trident. Ernesto Valverde signed Ousmane Dembele and planned, before his injury, to deploy him on the right flank, giving Lionel Messi a more central role and pushing Suarez out to the left.
There may be less goals for the prolific Uruguayan forward, but that won’t stop him from entering Barcelona’s all-time top 10 goalscorers.
With 124 goals in all competitions, Suarez has equalled Mariano Martin’s tally, who currently occupies 10th position.
Messi only scored 48 goals in his opening 100 La Liga appearances but Suarez will struggle to match his total of 515, which is still increasing.
