#PenaltyGate: PSG chairman tried to bribe Cavani.

PSG chairman tried to bribe Cavani to let Neymar take penalties.

That’s according to Diego Torres, journalist for Spanish publication ‘El Pais’, who claims that the PSG supremo sent one of his emissaries to meet with Cavani and offer him an ‘improved contract’.

In said contract, it was suggested that PSG would change the Uruguayan’s bonus for being the top scorer in Ligue 1 (a bonus of €1m) for a different bonus, this one being guaranteed and worth the same amount as the other, providing the 30-year-old leave penalty duties to the Samba star.

Put simply, if Neymar were to take all the spot kicks for the rest of the season, Cavani would receive €1m.

However, the striker saw the offer for what it was, a bribe, and according to Torres, Cavani rejected the offer out of hand, feeling insulted by the very idea. The striker reminded the PSG hierarchy that he is now into his fifth season in the French capital and through his performances and goals so far in his PSG career, he has earned the right to take penalties.

As such, no agreement was found between the player and the chairman, meaning the problem will have to be sorted out in the dressing room.
