The best and worst performers out of the group stages

It has been a thrilling roller coaster as the favorites for the tournament downplaying our expectations and the defending champions Germany being eliminated in the group stages. This has to be their worst performance in the competition.

Also the introduction of VAR( video assistant referee) has seen many goals allowed and disallowed and teams penalized. It has also caused mixed emotions across as people are saying it has killed the the spirit of the game.

Nonetheless we can’t ignore the performers of the group stages, best and worst;

You can’t mention worst without mentioning the German squad, being defended champions and failing to proceed from the group stages with their squad is utterly disgusting. The worst performers include defender Sami Khedira who was lazy and showed the least effort following their first defeat to Mexico which led him to being rested in their second match against Sweden. The other player is Thomas Muller who has left the tournament goalless as their forward and winger Timo Werner whose performance has been abysmal though seen as a promising star before the tournament. The rest are Hummels, Boateng and keeper Neuer who made several mistakes and hands turned into jelly.

In the English team despite their reign of wins and defeat to Belgium there are a few disappointments from the squads favorites like Marcus Rashford who had been deemed to replace Sterling but has proved to be a liability with poor skills and work rate slightly above Sterling. He missed an open chance to score against Belgium probably among top race for miss of the tournament so far. Other players are Dier, Henderson, Loftus Cheek and Danny Rose.

The best performers are Modric , the Croatian midfielder has shown why he’s first choice Real Madrid player maker and deserves recognition more. He’s performance and footballing skills have been superb and lead his team to be contenders for the tournament.

Romera Lukaku has shown what he’s capable of when surrounded by team players and decent footballers. He’s a contender for the golden boot if he keeps scoring.

Ko Yo-Han  is the highest average of any player but that may be because you got a little excited by South Korea’s win over Germany. The 11 minutes Ko played as a substitute in that game was his only appearance of the tournament.

Harry Kane has also been outstanding through the tournament.
