Manchester United midfielder Juan Mata is confident that Louis van Gaal’s approach will bring success to Old Trafford.

The Dutchman is still adjusting to life at his new club after he replaced former boss David Moyes following a disastrous campaign last season.

Van Gaal guided the Netherlands to third place in the World Cup in Brazil and he has since seen the Red Devils beat LA Galaxy and Roma as part of their pre-season tour of America.

The 62-year-old has added Ander Herrera and Luke Shaw to his squad this summer as he tries to challenge for the Premier League title during his first season in charge.

Van Gaal was critical of his side’s defending during their 3-2 win over Roma and Mata believes his approach will pay off.

He said: “He is right to be demanding. As a player you want a coach like this – always demanding more, wanting us to play better and trying to win the games earlier or in a different way.

“We feel the manager is a great manager who has brought a strong mentality.

“This club is made for a winning mentality and I think he has it. He has had success in different countries.

“We are happy with him and the way he works. Everything is new but we are adapting well to his style of football.”

United will have to overcome the likes of Chelsea, Arsenal, Manchester City and Liverpool for the Premier League title and they are currently priced at 5.80 to lift the trophy next May.
