Frank Lampard admits he is “really excited” about starting a new chapter in his career at Manchester City after completing his loan move from New York City.

Lampard has surprisingly joined the Premier League champions on a short-term loan deal until January after being released by Chelsea at the end of last season.

The 36-year-old midfielder joins up with his new team-mates for the first time on Wednesday for a training session at the club’s Carrington complex.

Speaking about the switch for the first time, the England midfielder said: “Joining up with Manchester City is a fantastic opportunity for me to continue to train and play at the top level and make sure I am in top condition for New York City.

“It has been an amazing few days for me since the unveiling in Brooklyn and everyone connected with both clubs has been fantastic to me. This is a new chapter of my career and I’m really excited about the experience.

“I met Manuel and some of the players in New York and I’m looking forward to getting into training and making a contribution for Manchester City ahead of my move over to New York.”

Lampard made 26 appearances for Chelsea in the Premier League last season, scoring six goals.

He is free to play for Manchester City as early as this Sunday when the Premier League champions take on FA Cup winners Arsenal in the Community Shield at Wembley.

City are 1.62 to win the Community Shield while the Gunners are 2.42.
