Manchester City are set to boost their squad further after Fiorentina confirmed a deal has been agreed between two clubs for striker Stevan Jovetic.

New City boss Manuel Pellegrini is trying to build a squad that cannot only win the Premier League title, but can also bring the Champions League to the Etihad Stadium, and Jovetic will be the latest piece in the jigsaw.

Pellegrini has already been busy when signing Jesus Navas and Fernandinho and they will be joined by Jovetic after Fiorentina announced via Twitter that a deal is done.

The statement read: “An agreement has been reached with Manchester City Football Club for the permanent sale of the player Stevan Jovetic.”

A number of clubs including Arsenal, Chelsea and Juventus had also been linked with the Montenegro striker but City have beaten off the competition to wrap up a deal.

Pellegrini was keen to find a replacement for Carlos Tevez, who left City earlier in the summer to sign for Juventus and Jovetic appears to be that man.

Jovetic is hardly prolific after scoring just 35 goals in five seasons with Fiorentina, but Pellegrini clearly rates him and believes he can play a key role as City bid for glory in the forthcoming campaign.

The 23-year-old still has to agree terms and pass a medical but City do not expect any hitches and Jovetic could be unveiled as the latest new signing before the week is out.

The spending will not stop there either as City are also expected to wrap up the signing of striker Alvaro Negredo from Seville in the coming days.
