England batsman Joe Root admits he is desperate to experience a repeat of this summer’s victorious series when he heads out with the rest of the side for the upcoming return Ashes Down Under.
Root announced himself on the world stage with some impressive performances for England against the Baggy Greens on home soil this summer.
After hitting 339 runs in the 3-0 overall triumph, he will now hope to play a key role on tour to help his country defend the urn.
Alastair Cook’s team fly to Australia next week as preparations begin for the five-Test series, with the first of the matches in Brisbane on November 21, and Yorkshire star Root is looking forward to the challenge.
“It was an exciting experience, I loved minute of it,” he said when asked about the home Ashes win. “It’s something I dreamt of doing when I was a young boy. I’ll treasure the experience for a long time.
“It’s nice to know I contributed and I’ll take that forward into the winter. We’ll make sure we’re ready.”
Root believes England may have a “slight advantage” heading into the Ashes as Australia have a busy build-up, playing seven one-dayers against India over the next month.
He added on Sky Sports News: “We are concentrating on our own preparation and making sure we are ready for the series.
“They are a very good side, especially at home, so we’re going to have to play some very good cricket, but all the lads are looking forward to getting out there and making it a really good series.”
