World number two Novak Djokovic defeated Juan Martin Del Potro in three sets to retain his Shanghai Masters title in China on Sunday.
The 26-year-old Serbian looked on course for a comfortable victory at the Qizhong Arena when he capitalised on his Argentinian opponent’s poor service game in the first set to ease through.
However, Del Potro fought back well in the second, breaking Djokovic in the second game before holding serve. He then went on to take the set with a love game in the ninth.
There was very little to separate the duo in the third and deciding set until the 10th game when Djokovic wasted two match points at 5-4 up to settle the contest.
However, Del Potro was not let off during the subsequent tie-break as the former world number one came out on top 6-1 3-6 7-6 (7-3) to take his 15th Masters title.
The six-time major winner also followed up his recent victory against Nadal in the China Open final to cap a good fortnight and claims his fifth ATP Tour title of the year.
