Graham DeLaet says he has enjoyed a good rest over the winter and the Canadian is now raring to go again as he prepares for his first tournament of the year – the Farmers Insurance Open in San Diego this week.
DeLaet will hope to get 2014 off to a good start as he looks to build on his best-ever showing last year when he managed to finish inside the top 50 in the world and also booked a place at The Masters at Augusta this spring.
It will be the 31-year-old’s first chance of playing in the major and he is already looking forward to the event, even though he has several tournaments to negotiate before April.
“When I look at the schedule, that’s the one thing that stands out,” he said. “I feel like I know the course so well already, the breaks on the green and where to hit it.
“It’s my highlight sporting event of the year to watch.”
First up is this week’s Farmers Insurance Open, for which DeLaet is on offer at 51.00 to win, and he comes up against a tough field with world number one Tiger Woods the short 3.50 favourite for the title, ahead of the likes of Phil Mickelson (13.00), Brandt Snedeker (17.00) and Bill Haas (21.00).
DeLaet is looking forward to getting back into action in California after a much-needed break at the end of last year.
“It was a good off season,” he added. “I was really burned at the end of last year but now my battery has been recharged and I’m ready to get going.”
