Tottenham are closing in on the capture of Southampton manager Mauricio Pochettino after fresh reports claimed they are in advanced negotiations with him.

Spurs have been heavily linked with the Argentine tactician ever since the departure of Tim Sherwood and it looks as though they are closing in on their man after holding lengthy talks.

Pochettino has done a fine job since taking charge at St Mary’s and his work has not gone unnoticed by Spurs chief Daniel Levy, who has been impressed with the way he has helped establish Saints in the top flight as well as the attractive brand of football he tries to play.

Southampton are keen to keep their man, but this now looks an impossible task as he is due to fall out of contract and has no intention of penning a new one.

Dutch legend Frank de Boer has also been heavily linked with the vacant position at White Hart Lane, along with Michael Laudrup, but Pochettino is now hot favourite to get the job.

Pochettino worked with little pressure at Southampton but that will change if he gets the Spurs job as Levy wants Champions League football and he will provide the money to sign the players he needs.

Pochettino will then need to deliver the goods or face the axe like many before him.

Neither club or indeed the man himself has commented on the rumours but it is thought Pochettino could be unveiled by the end of the week.
