David Moyes has hinted at major changes to his Manchester United squad over the summer following a disappointing start to his time as manager.

United are well off the pace in the race for Premier League honours with even the most die-hard supporter sure to be reluctant to put their money down on a successful title defence, even at the current price of 85.00.

However the arrival of Juan Mata from Chelsea for £37.1million has given the whole club a lift and Moyes has admitted there will be more top class arrivals in the close season.

A number of big names including Patrice Evra and Rio Ferdinand could be among the players to leave and Moyes says some of his under-performing stars can have no complaints if they are moved on.

“I am not going to accept it,” said Moyes. “I am disappointed we are not in a much stronger position. I am disappointed with how we have played.

“I, ultimately, take the rap for that. But what I will do is make it right. I am going to get better players in. Unfortunately I don’t think there will be more in January. But it will change.

“I have given every player the opportunity to play and show what they can do. We have had a pretty good chance to have a look at it.

“The players have to perform. If they want to be here and making sure they have a jersey, they have to show it in the games. Undoubtedly this club wants to be at the top. We want to be challenging. At this moment in time we have failed to do that. We want to do something about it.”

Moyes is unlikely to make any further additions this month but it looks set to be a busy summer for the Reds boss as the rebuilding continues.
