Real Madrid playmaker Luka Modric has played down talk of a return to the Premier League.

Real Madrid playmaker Luka Modric has played down talk of a return to the Premier League after insisting he is more than happy to be playing his football at the Santiago Bernabeu.

The Croatia international has made a slow start to life in the Spanish capital, having left Tottenham Hotspur to develop his career in La Liga.

However, Modric has come in for some criticism for his performances in the white jersey of Real, especially from the club’s supporters who are not renowned for their patience when it comes to giving players time to settle.

There has been plenty of speculation regarding the 27-year-old possibly following in the footsteps of Jose Mourinho who has left Real this summer to return to Chelsea.

Modric is fully aware of the rumours and has admitted there has been interest from some clubs but having only moved to the Bernabeu in August last year, the midfielder has no plans to give up at Real.

He told The Sun: “I’m not even thinking about the possibility I could leave Madrid this summer, but there is interest from other clubs.
“Every kid who plays football dreams about playing for Real Madrid. It was the same with me.

“Of course I was sad when Jose Mourinho left. He was the one who insisted in bringing me to Madrid. He is a fantastic coach and I am honoured to have worked with him.”

Modric did show signs of getting back to his best form towards the latter stages of last season and the former Spurs star will now be looking to build on that during the next campaign.
