David Moyes has promised Manchester United fans there will be more world-class players arriving in the summer, after Wayne Rooney penned a bumper new deal.

Rooney has put an end to all the speculation surrounding his future after signing a new five-and-a-half year deal said to be worth in the region of £300,000 a week.

It has been a difficult start for Moyes after he took over from Sir Alex Ferguson in the summer, but securing Rooney will give him and the rest of the club a much-needed boost.

The arrival of Juan Mata in January also proved United are willing to spend big, and Moyes says the rebuilding process will continue in the close season.

“I want to bring more Wayne Rooneys to Manchester United,” Moyes told MUTV.

“We’re having to build again and start again. Part of the rebuilding (process) is making sure that you keep the players you really want to keep.

“We are looking to bring the best players in the world to the club. Wayne Rooney is one of the best in the world.

“I will be looking to make more signings in the summer and hopefully add to the quality we already have got.

“It (the signing) tells the fans it’ll get better – and it will. I’ve had great support from the owners and the board – and it won’t be the last, that’s for sure.”

Chelsea tried to sign Rooney in the summer and were expected to make another approach at the end of the season had he not signed his new deal, but Jose Mourinho will now have to look elsewhere.
