Manchester City manager Manuel Pellegrini has insisted his players are still in good spirits despite their shock draw with Sunderland in midweek and claims other teams at the top will drop points as the season draws to a close.

City slipped to a 2-2 draw at the Etihad on Wednesday evening against relegation-threatened Sunderland – a result that left the Citizens six points behind league leaders Liverpool and four points behind Chelsea in second, although they do have a game in hand on the pair.

The draw also means that should City claim maximum points from that game in hand, they will still be one point behind Chelsea as the race for the title intensifies with games running out.

Pellegrini has remained calm in light of City’s recent results , insisting that there will be plenty more twists and turns to come and claims his side are not out of the running just yet.

The Chilean said: “I am absolutely sure teams will drop more points. Liverpool, Chelsea could drop the same way we dropped in the last game. So we have to play for another 15 points, we have to try and win the most amount of points, at the end of the season we will see which team have won the title.

“We are trying to prepare for next season but first we must try to finish this season. It’s important to have all our minds – player minds, the manager’s mind and everyone here at the club on trying to finish the season in the best way.”

City host West Brom on Monday evening and are resounding favourites to win at 1.60, while the Baggies are underdogs at 11.13, and the draw is at 6.81.
