Paris Saint-Germain’s Mamadou Sakho could be on his way to Liverpool as Brendan Rogers looks to strengthen his defence ahead of Premier League season.

With Jamie Carragher now retired and Martin Skrtel seemingly out of favour, Rogers is on the look-out for a ready-made replacement and may have found one in the shape of 23-year-old Sakho who has been capped 13 times by France.

However, such is the wealth of talent at PSG, former coach Carlo Ancelotti had only used him sparingly over the past 12 months, with the Paris-born defender limited to just 24 first-team appearances.

The situation has left Sakho frustrated and contemplating a move in a bid to play more first-team football although he intends to hold talks with new boss Laurent Blanc prior to making a decision.

He has revealed there is an offer on the table from another big club, but whether that is Liverpool remains to be revealed, as other clubs on the continent, including AC Milan, have also reportedly expressed an interest.

Sakho said: “I’ll be able to talk with the new coach and see what he thinks.

“I am flattered by the interest of historic clubs like Liverpool and AC Milan. We will see what happens in the near future.”
