Chelsea have bolstered their ranks further after confirming a deal with Anzhi Makhachkala for Brazil playmaker Willian, subject to a work permit.

Willian was closing in on a move to Tottenham and underwent a medical at White Hart Lane, but Chelsea have nipped in at the last minute to secure a deal for the 25-year-old, who will cost in the region of £30million.

The Blues have got their season off to the perfect start after wins over Hull City and Aston Villa, and Mourinho’s squad will be even stronger with the addition of the former Shakhtar Donetsk favourite.

Chelsea confirmed the deal when issuing the following statement on the club’s website: “Chelsea Football Club can confirm an agreement has been reached with both Willian and his club Anzhi Makhachkala for the transfer of the Brazilian player.”

Jose Mourinho had previously stated that he wants two more players to complete his squad before the transfer window closes and the first piece of the jigsaw is in place following the signing of the Ribeirao Pires-born Willian.

Mourinho now wants Manchester United forward Wayne Rooney to complete his spending and is set to make a third bid after the two sides go head-to-head on Monday night.

The champions have already rejected two bids but Mourinho says he has nothing to lose by making a third bid, and hopes David Moyes will finally agree to sell.
