Gareth Barry issued warning to Manchester United, claiming City will be ready to reclaim Premier League title next season.

The defending champions failed to display their dominance this campaign and are some points away from United in the closing stages of the domestic league.

Furthermore, City did not perform well in the Champions League, failing to move on from the group stages.

However, they can still win silverware this season as they are in the FA Cup final and will face Wigan Athletic.

Though the Englishman admitted they have taken a step back from their goals and set accomplishments, Barry insists that they will take the good from the season and use it as a catalyst next year.

“It is frustrating in many ways because we’ve shown what a great team we are,” he told reporters.

“So it’s only natural to think that had we played at our best all year we could have had a great chance of retaining the title, but that’s probably not going to be now.

“We’ve had injuries this year we didn’t have last time around and we have almost a fully-fit squad now and I think it shows.

“All we can do is take each game as it comes, play our best and try and win. Next season we will be back and have learned from what has happened and the aim will be to win the title back.”
