Rafael Nadal beat Marinko Matosevic 6-1 6-2 in Monte Carlo Masters, extends his event winning streak to 43 matches.

The victory sets up the world number five to play Philipp Kohlschreiber of Germany in the third round.

Making extremely light work of his Australian opponent, the only danger Nadal saw himself in was almost being down 3-0 in the second set.

However, the Spaniard rebounded as he saved break points to quickly turn things around and dominated.

The 27-year-old Matosevic won some cheers from the crowd after winning his first point after surrendering seven straight, and he went on to milk their applause as he won his first game, though down 4-1 in the first set.

Nadal, who was out for seven months due to injury, has made a successful return by winning three out of his first four tournaments including the Indian Wells Masters Series.
