Barcelona talisman Lionel Messi has been passed fit to play for Argentina in Friday’s World Cup qualifier against Colombia.

Argentina need just four more points in the Conmebol qualification group to guarantee a spot at the 2014 World Cup in Brazil and host Colombia at the El Monumental Stadium in Buenos Aires on Friday.

Messi has been sidelined with a hamstring injury and made his last competitive appearance in Barcelona’s 2-1 win over Atletico Madrid on May 12.

There were serious doubts as to whether or not the 25-year-old triple Ballon d’Or winner would be fit to face Colombia, but Barcelona have now confirmed Messi will feature in the World Cup qualifier.

“Leo Messi receives the medical all-clear,” said a brief statement on the official Barcelona Twitter account.

Messi has been accused of not performing at the same level for his country as he does for his club on occasion, but his availability will come as a huge boost to Argentina boss Alejandro Sabella.

The forward is the Argentina captain and has managed 32 goals in 79 appearances to date for La Albiceleste.

Argentina currently lead South American qualification with 24 points from 11 games.

Colombia, who have played a game less, are third in the standings with 19 points.
