Rafael Nadal has admitted he will be up against it when he faces world number one Novak Djokovic in the final of the US Open on Monday.

The Spaniard managed to book his place in the showpiece event after seeing off the challenge of the Frenchman Richard Gasquet with an impressive straight-sets victory.

Nadal maintained his 100 per cent winning record against Gasquet on Saturday to set up the final many had been hoping for before the start of the competition in New York.

The 27-year-old has managed to come back from the knee injury problems which plagued him last year and now he has a chance to secure the 13th Grand Slam title of his career.

He said: “It’s just amazing. After what happened last year, to have the chance to play in the final is a dream for me.

“Novak is an amazing competitor. He’s been in the final here a lot of times, he’s a great champion and it will be a tough final for me.”

Djokovic booked his place in the final thanks to a dramatic victory over Stanislas Wawrinka in their semi-final on Saturday.

The Swiss star had already beaten defending champion Andy Murray in the quarter-finals and looked like he was about to take another scalp when he won the first set.

However Djokovic showed his class and eventually won 2-6 7-6 (7-4) 3-6 6-3 6-4 to book his place in his fourth successive US Open final and set up a mouth-watering showdown with Nadal on Monday.
