Andy Murray is convinced he will be able to overcome Novak Djokovic should the pair meet at Wimbledon.
The Scot’s last win over the world number one came in the 2013 Wimbledon final and since then Djokovic has picked up a number of notable victories over Murray.
The British star was beaten in this year’s Australian Open final and the semi-finals of the French Open by the Serb, but Murray has drawn confidence from those matches regardless of his defeats.
Murray was 2-0 down in Paris but fought back to 2-2 before Djokovic claimed the decider and the two-time Grand Slam champion is convinced he will come out on top should they meet at Wimbledon or the US Open later this year.
“Looking at both of the matches we played [at the Slams] this year, I was up a break in the third set in the Australian Open final,” he told the Scotsman.
“It was 7-6 6-7 and I was up a break in the third set. Obviously here, I needed to start the match better, but I think, overall, I don’t think I’m too far away.
“Australia is his best surface, his best tournament for him. He loves the conditions there. Clay – he’s obviously, over the years, been much better than me on clay courts.
“On grass, we’ve only played a couple of times and I’ve played well against him so I think the US Open and Wimbledon, I prefer the conditions there for my game. So, hopefully, I can close the gap a bit more.”
Djokovic leads Murray 19-8 in the head-to-head and 3-2 in Grand Slam finals, but the Briton does hold the advantage on grass with two wins and no losses.
