Agnieszka Radwanska has confirmed she will play at the AEGON Classic in Birmingham in a bid to help her chances of Wimbledon glory.

The Pole disappointingly fell to Tsvetana Pironkova in the fourth round of the French Open but has moved on from her clay-court heartache and is now focussing on the grass season.

The highlight of this period of the year is Wimbledon but the lack of opportunities to play on grass means it is vital for the players to take every chance afforded to them.

Radwanska has now confirmed that next week’s event in Birmingham will be part of her plans for SW19 and she will be part of a star-studded line-up also including Australian Open winner and defending champion Angelique Kerber.

Simona Halep, Caroline Wozniacki and British number one Johanna Konta are also among those set to be present for the event at Edgbaston Priory Club.

Having reached the final of Wimbledon in 2012, the tournament is arguably the 27-year-old’s favourite of the Grand Slams.

The world number four will be the top seed in Birmingham and is looking forward to the tournament.

She said: “I’m really happy to be coming to Birmingham.

I love to play on grass and I have heard really good things about the tournament.

“It’s important to get time on the grass and adding Birmingham to my schedule gives me the best possible preparation for Wimbledon.”

Radwanska is currently 26.00 to win Wimbledon while she is priced at 41.00 for glory later this year at the US Open.
