David Grace has failed in his latest attempt to secure a place on the main tour for next season after suffering a 4-2 defeat to Craig Steadman on Thursday.

Former world number 43 Grace is one of a number of players looking to claim a two-year exemption on the main tour, but he now has just one more opportunity to secure that feat after losing to Steadman at Event Two.

Grace had beaten Steven Hallworth, Heather Clare and Thor Chuan Leong to make it through to the fourth round of the event, but he found that world number 89 Steadman was a step too far.

The Leeds-native, who lost in the third round of last week’s opening Q School event, will now have one more opportunity to secure his main tour card at Event Three next week.

Grace, who reached the semi-finals of the UK Championship in 2015, has previously secured his tour card by winning a Q School event, as he achieved that feat back in 2011.

The 33-year-old is not the only high-profile player that faces the possibility of missing out on a main tour card, as former world number 18 Barry Pinches, as well as highly-rated teenager Jackson Page are also entering last chance saloon status.

Jak Jones, Sam Baird, Hammad Miah and Sam Craigie have already secured their main tour status by winning Event One last week, while another four spots will be grabbed when Event Two reaches a conclusion on Friday.

The third and final event will get underway at Burton’s Meadowside Leisure Centre on Saturday.
