Mark Selby has admitted he cannot wait to take part in the semi-finals of the Dafabet World Championship after beating Alan McManus.

Selby, who was runner up in 2007, managed to run out the 13-5 winner at the Crucible in Sheffield.

He went into the session with a 12-4 lead, but McManus won the first frame thanks to a break of 69.

McManus then had several opportunities but he failed to take them and Selby progressed to the final four.

Speaking after the match, he told the BBC: “I think it was four years ago since I was in the semi-final before so it seems like forever with so many tournaments now during the season.

“I’m looking forward to it and can’t wait to get out there.”

Elsewhere in the tournament, Ronnie O’Sullivan also reached the semi-finals thanks to a convincing 13-3 win over Shaun Murphy.

The five-time world champion did have a 6-2 lead going into the session and at the mid-session interval he led 9-3.

Not even a delayed start due to a problem with the scoreboard could stop O’Sullivan, who continued to punish Murphy.

O’Sullivan wasn’t at his brilliant best but he still managed to win seven of the eight frames on Wednesday morning to seal his place in the semis.
