David Price’s promoter Kalle Sauerland has confirmed he is looking to secure a fight against Eric Molina in the near
future as he tries to get the Liverpudlian back onto the world scene.
When he first burst onto the scene, Price was widely expected to challenge for world titles but a number of defeats saw him contemplate retirement.
Back-to-back losses to Tony Thompson forced him to fight abroad and he was then knocked out by Eric Teper.
However, Price returned to winning ways in May against Vaclav Pejsar. He needs a big win to catapult himself back into world title contention once again and Sauerland believes a win over American Molina will do just that.
He told Sky Sports: “I would expect [Price] to go on the Liverpool show, certainly against decent opposition, leading up to a Molina fight in November.
“The Molina fight is definitely one. We’ve reached out for Molina already, and I don’t see a problem with that fight. It’s a real test, a good fight.
I think that’s something that will happen later this year. “If he comes through those two, he’s right back in the mix.
Talking about Anthony Joshua opponents, if [Price] comes through these two fights there will be all sorts of cries, especially from the north-west, for a Joshua-Price fight.”
A number of wins could see Price face the likes of Tyson Fury but the Manchester fighter must beat Wladimir Klitschko first.
He is priced at 1.95 to win their fight in October, with the draw 23.00, while Klitschko is available at 1.91.
