Jessie Vargas is confident he will be ready to produce the best performance of his career when he faces Manny Pacquiao on Sunday morning.

The American, who is 7.00 to win, puts his WBO welterweight belt on the line against the Filipino, whose own camp have been talking up his conditioning after coming out of his brief retirement for the bout.

Vargas has lost just one of his 28 professional bouts, going down to Timothy Bradley last June but got back on track by knocking out Sadam Ali in March.

Sunday’s fight will be the biggest of his career but ‘La Nueva Generation’ is by no means intimidated by his fearsome opponent.

The 27-year-old says he has tailored his training camp to ensure he can target Pacquiao’s weaknesses, with him expecting the 37-year-old, who is the huge 1.11 favourite, to tire during the latter rounds due to his age.

Vargas is confident he has the gameplan to cause an upset on Sunday and believes the situation he finds himself in is similar to the one the Filipino experienced earlier in his career.

“Not only am I working hard but working smart,” he is quoted as saying by Fight News. “I have a good team that is guiding me the right way working on the strategy to perfection just like the last fight.

“I am going up against a fast, experienced, fighter and it is possible and I have what it takes to win. He is the older and I am the younger fighter just like when he beat Barrera and Morales. They were past their prime.”
