Chris Eubank has urged Billy Joe Saunders to sign-up for a rematch with his son, Chris Eubank Jr, but he insists they will not be made to wait for the WBO middleweight champion’s decision.

Saunders, who is undefeated in 23 professional bouts, secured a split decision success over Eubank Jr in November 2014, and he has since gone on to claim the WBO middleweight title.

British middleweight champion Eubank Jr has claimed victories over the likes of Dmitry Chudinov, Gary O’Sullivan and Tom Doran since his maiden defeat, while he also came close to securing a fight with divisional king Gennady Golovkin, Golovkin instead chose to fight Kell Brook, with that bout scheduled to take place September 10, leaving Eubank Jr to search for an alternative opponent, and his father has now revealed that the 26-year-old could face a rematch against Saunders.

Eubank Sr told the Express: “He (Saunders) said on Twitter that he is ready for the fight but I’ve seen nothing from him. “Maybe he has had second thoughts.

He’s given his word to the boxing fans that he will have the rematch with Junior so now we’re waiting to hear from him and his management team.”

Eubank Sr admits that the ball is now in Saunders’ court, but he insists his son will not wait around for decision on the fight, as he has alternative opponents already lined up.

He added: “We welcome the rematch, however we’re not waiting around because we have offers from abroad.”
