Chris Eubank Jr doubts whether Kell Brook has the credentials to beat Gennady Golovkin, and he admits that he is desperate to fight the winner of next month’s bout.

Brook and ‘GGG’ are set to go head-to-head at the O2 Arena in London on September 10, with the British fighter stepping up two weight divisions to fight the WBC, IBF and IBO middleweight champion.

Eubank Jr, who saw his own chance to fight Golovkin fall through at the last minute, doubts whether Brook has the desire or the know-how to beat the Kazakhstani fighter, and he believes his compatriot merely sees the bout as a pay-day.

He said: “I think Kell is just along for the ride and is just happy to be getting a pay-day and being involved in what he thinks is the biggest fight in boxing at the moment.”

Both fighters will head into the contest unbeaten, but Golovkin is available at 1.14 to win the bout, while Brook is priced at 6.00 and the draw is on offer at 26.00.

Eubank Jr still retains hope of fighting the winner of the bout, although he must first focus on the defence of his own British middleweight title, which he will put on the line against Tommy Langford at the Motorpoint Arena in Cardiff on October 22.

He added: “I’ll be looking to fight the winner of Golovkin v Brook at the end of the year or very early next year.”
