Jeremain Lens has sent a parting shot to Sunderland before completing a season-long loan switch to Turkish giants Fenerbahce.
The Netherlands international only moved to the Stadium of Light in an £8million switch from Dynamo Kyiv in the summer of 2015, but he struggled to hold down a regular first-team place on Wearside, starting just 14 Premier League matches.
The 28-year-old has come on as a substitute in the Black Cats’ last two league matches against Middlesbrough and Southampton, but he has now completed a temporary switch to the Super Lig, but not before sending a parting shot to David Moyes’ side.
“Sunderland would just love to get rid of me,” Lens said. “I did not play, was not even on the bench. I just had a problem with the club. What? No idea.”
The former PSV Eindhoven player will now team-up with Fenerbahce boss Dick Advocaat, who managed him at Sunderland, for the fourth time in his career, and he is also hoping to earn a recall to the Dutch national team during his time in Turkey.
He continued: “I have a good relationship with Dick, but he also knows my qualities.
It is not that he is doing me a favour. This is perhaps, for the purpose of (playing for) Holland again, a good step.”
Sunderland will begin life without Lens when they take on Everton on home soil after the international break on September 12.
The Black Cats are priced at 3.50 to win the match, while the Toffees are on offer at 2.10 and the draw is priced at 3.30.
