The Ultimate Fighting Championship will give us what should be a very entertaining fight on Saturday between Calvin Kattar and former UFC featherweight champion Max Holloway. UFC Fight Night: Holloway vs. Kattar will be at the UFC Fight Island on Yas Island in Abu Dhabi, with a limited number of fans in attendance because of the COVID-19 pandemic.

Kattar wrestled in high school and was intrigued by MMA after watching the first fight of his sister’s best friend. Regional promoter Dave George eventually got him on a local circuit card in Derry, New Hampshire and Kattar never looked back.

For years, he sold out fights at Rockingham Park. Kattar eventually bought Combat Zone MMA, the longest-running MMA event promoter in New England, and focused more on promoting than fighting. Yet he never lost the desire to get back in the cage.

Nicknamed “The Boston Fighter,” Kattar was on the UFC’s radar and they asked him if he wanted to be part of UFC 214. He agreed and immediately shocked the world by winning a unanimous decision against Andre Fili in his debut with the promotion on July 29th, 2017.

Kattar has a 6-2 record in the UFC with TKO wins against Shane Burgos, Chris Fishgold and Ricardo Lamas. He is coming off a unanimous decision win against Dan Ige at UFC on ESPN 13 on July 15.

Born: March 26th, 1988

Height: 5’11″

Weight: 145 lbs

Reach: 72″

Stance: Orthodox

Association: Carlos Neto BJJ / Team Sityidtong

This is a very important fight for Kattar and Holloway but it is clearly the biggest fight in Kattar’s career. Kattar has won his last two fights wins and four of his last five while Holloway lost two in a row to Alexander Volkanovski and three of his last four fights overall. This makes Holloway even more dangerous. Both fighters are high-level strikers but Kattar holds a 3-inch reach advantage. It should be an incredible fight.
