Jockey Tom Scudamore believes Dynaste can mix it with the more established runners in Saturday’s Betfair Chase at Haydock.

The David Pipe-trained grey is among the contenders for the keenly-anticipated Group 1 race this weekend, but faces heavyweights such as Gold Cup winner Bobs Worth, the much-fancied Silviniaco Conti and experienced campaigners The Giant Bolster, Tidal Bay, Long Run and Cue Card.

Dynaste has been stepped up after landing the Feltham Novices’ Chase at Kempton last season and Pipe decided against running him in the Paddy Power Gold Cup at Cheltenham last weekend to instead save him for the Haydock showdown.

Jockey Scudamore admits Saturday represents a big challenge but he believes Dynaste should be able to handle the tough field.

He told the Daily Mail: “We could have gone for the Paddy Power Gold Cup but David felt this was the best option for Dynaste. We wanted to take on the big boys and see where we are.

“We are taking on horses which have been there and done it. We think we are good enough but we will find out in Saturday.

“We have 21lb to find with Bobs Worth and five with The Giant Bolster, who was fourth in the Gold Cup, but we know we have a good horse.”
