David Barron suggested Pearl Secret will now head to Glorious Goodwood, after being withdrawn from Saturday’s big race at Newmarket.

The exciting sprinter was being tipped to feature in the Group One July Cup this weekend, but connections decided against running at racing headquarters.

The four-year-old won all of his first four races and despite losing his unbeaten run, the colt has also impressed in his last two outings.

Pearl Secret finished a creditable ninth in last year’s Nunthorpe at York, before finishing strongly to grab third in the King’s Stand Stakes at Royal Ascot on his return in June.

But instead of taking his place at Newmarket this weekend, it now looks likely that his next race will be in early August.

Trainer Barron insisted: “He’s absolutely fine and I don’t think the July Cup was ever really a serious option. It was always one of the outsiders of the races he could go for.

“He’s in all the big sprints, so we’ll see which way we go. Goodwood is a possibility for him, and then there’s obviously the Nunthorpe later on.”

The King George Stakes on August 2 is likely to be his next test, while the five-furlong Nunthorpe Stakes at York could then follow for Pearl Secret on August 23, if all goes well at Goodwood.
