John Gosden hails ‘brave’ Enable

Trainer John Gosden was full of praise for Enable after she won a tantalising battle to line with Crystal Ocean in the King George VI And Queen Elizabeth Qipco Stakes.

The five-year-old entered the showpiece event at Ascot as the 8-15 favourite and she didn’t disappointing with the eyes on the racing world watching on. Frankie Dettori put in a fantastic ride to clock up an 11th straight victory on the filly despite strong competition from Crystal Ocean.

He was patient in his approach and was challenged by Sir Michael Stoute’s charge over the final two furlongs. But Enable had enough gas in the tank to get over the line by a neck and scoop the £1.25million in prize.

Gosden, who now boasts four victories in the King George, was delighted to see Enable prevail from a tense duel. “She’s a brave and wonderful filly, and what a great battle with Crystal Ocean,” Gosden said.

“Crystal Ocean showed all the courage in the world, and the first two are wonderful – they put up a great King George.” The pair will get the opportunity to renew their rivalry at York’s Ebor meeting on August 21 when they clash in the Juddmonte International Stakes.

Enable can be backed at 2.10 to make it 12 successive victories, while Crystal Ocean is priced at 4.00 to get revenge. Aiden O’Brien’s Anthony Van Dyck, who is available at 21.00 for the Juddmonte International Stakes, was expected to challenge after success in the Derby but finishing in a disappointing 10th.
