Trainer Roger Charlton has revealed a different path than first thought for Al Kazeem, as he builds up for the Prix de l’Arc de Triomphe.
The five-year-old impressed in victory at Royal Ascot last week, heading a field that included Camelot and Mukhadram to win the Prince of Wales’s Stakes.
Al Kazeem has recorded four wins on the bounce, two of those being Group One races, but his future path might surprise some.
It was expected the son of Dubawi would be prepared for a crack at the King George VI And Queen Elizabeth Stakes in a return to Ascot next month.
But Charlton says that won’t be the case, the next target being the Coral-Eclipse at Sandown on July 6 en route to Paris.
Charlton told At The Races: “The Eclipse is the plan, not the King George, and after that the Irish Champion Stakes at Leopardstown.
“It gives him two months off (after the Eclipse), then a month before the Arc.”
The trainer is adamant that his charge will stay the mile and quarter needed for the Prix de l’Arc de Triomphe, despite most of his recent races being run over 10 furlongs.
