Scotland’s Marc Warren says he cannot wait to get started after he secured entry into the WGC-Bridgestone Invitational at Firestone Country Club.
The 34-year-old recently climbed from 58th to 49th in the world rankings after finishing fourth at the Saltire Energy Paul Lawrie Match Play tournament in Aberdeen.
The Scot beat Richard Bland, Fabrizio Zanotti, Tyrrell Hatton and Nicolas Colsaerts before losing to eventual winner Kiradech Aphibarnrat in the semi-final and then suffering a narrow loss to David Howell in the third-fourth play-off.
It was enough to land the three-time European Tour winner a spot in the WGC event, which starts on Thursday, and Warren is looking forward to making his debut in the prestigious competition.
“I have watched it on TV and it looks like a great golf course, so I’m looking forward to seeing it and playing there,” he said.
“It’s nice to be making the trip to America a week early having got into such a big event with all the best players in the world involved.
“That’s where we all want to be so hopefully I can go there and play well because I have played well in America over the last year or so.
Warren, who is priced at 126.00 for the win, faces a tough ask to clinch the title, especially with Jordan Spieth chasing down the number one spot in the world.
A victory for the American would see him overhaul Rory McIlroy at the top of the standings and the youngster is in great form, having won the Masters, US Open and the John Deere Classic while narrowly missing out on the Open Championship.
Spieth is favourite at 6.00 while Australian Jason Day, who recently won the Canadian Open, is priced at 13.00.
