Patrick Reed is determined to focus on the job in hand as he bids to put behind him a disappointing end to his US Open challenge at Chambers Bay.

The American Ryder Cup star was in a share of the lead at the halfway stage in Washington State before shooting 76 and 71 to finish in a tie for 14th place, some seven shots adrift of the eventual winner Jordan Spieth.

However, Reed, 17.00 to win the Travelers Championship, has quickly moved on to preparing for the upcoming tournament at TPC River Highlands in Connecticut and is relaxed about the challenge ahead.

“I just need to make sure I don’t get too far ahead of myself and think too far ahead to Sunday and just focus on what day it is,” Reed told reporters.

“I feel like I’ve been hitting the ball really well. I feel like I’ve been putting really well.”

Meanwhile, Australian Jason Day has withdrawn from the Travelers Championship as he bids to recover from the bout of vertigo which hampered his bid for glory at the US Open.

Day was the joint leader going into the final round at Chambers Bay, but could only shoot 74 on day four and eventually had to settle for a share of ninth place.

The 27-year-old now has eight top-10 finishes at a major to his name, having finished as runner-up twice at the US Open and once at the Masters.

However, at the next major on the calendar, the Open Championship, Day’s best finish is a tie for 30th place achieved in 2011.
