Andy Murray has been backed to add to his Grand Slam tally in the near future by seven-time major champion John McEnroe.

Murray, the 2012 US Open and 2013 Wimbledon champion, heads back to SW19 in good heart following a fourth title success at Queen’s Club.

And former American great McEnroe likes what he sees in Murray, believing that the Brit has improved his game markedly since his dip in form and injury problems around a year ago.

He told the Daily Mail: “I would be surprised, the way he has moved on from a year to a year-and-a-half ago, if Andy didn’t win a couple more.

“If you talk about Andy’s chances, he’s in the top four at every major he plays. He has put himself back in the mix and it’s taken him a while, but he looks healthy and dangerous.

“I think overall he is 10 to 15% better (than early last year) and that is a significant amount at his level.”

Murray, who lost in the quarter-finals of Wimbledon last year, is 3.50 to triumph at SW19 this time around.

To secure the title he may well have to defeat world number one Novak Djokovic, who has won all seven meetings between the two players since Murray came out on top in the Wimbledon final two years ago.

That run includes a win for Djokovic in the final of the Australian Open earlier this year and a semi-final triumph at the French Open.
