Henrik Stenson is one shot clear of the field on six-under after the first round of Tour Championship as he targets FedEx Cup glory.
The Swede has been the in-form player on tour in the latter half of the year, his good run starting with a second place finish at the Open Championship in July.
The world number six has since finished in the top three in four of his six outings, including winning the Deutsche Bank championship last month.
That victory meant he started the Tour Championship in second place in the FedEx Cup standings and with an excellent chance of scooping the $10million prize on offer to the winner of the end-of-season play-offs.
Stenson did his chances of collecting that massive bonus no harm with a 64 on Thursday, putting on a clinic on the front nine with five birdies to give him a slight advantage over second-placed Adam Scott.
Masters champion Scott also has his focus set on winning the FedEx Cup and kept within touching distance of Stenson with six birdies in seven holes on the back nine to card a 65.
Zach Johnson and Matt Kuchar could also claim the FedEx Cup with victory at the PGA Championship and both Americans shot 69s on the first day.
The only other player with a chance of winning the $10million prize is Tiger Woods but he has left himself with a mountain to climb after a three-over 73.
The 14-time major winner was one of just six players who failed to break par in the first round at East Lake and he finds himself in a share of 29th heading into day two.
