England’s Paul Casey insists he is determined to end 2016 on a high by winning this week’s Safeway Open in Napa.

The world number 12 has enjoyed a real purple patch in recent weeks, with three top five finishes in a row.

Casey, 13.00 to win the Safeway Open, finished second at the Deutshe Bank Championship and BMW Championship, before finishing fourth at last weekend’s Tour Championship.

He has enjoyed a solid 2016 so far, but Casey has not won on the PGA Tour since 2009. His last taste of victory came at the 2009 Shell Houston Open but Casey believes the course at Silverado Resort and Spa suits his game.

“It’s fantastic,” he is quoted as saying by Sky Sports. “You have to position your golf ball really well, and obviously you have to hit it straight.

“Positioning second shots on the greens in the right spot is going to be key because the greens have a lot of pitch to them, a lot of slope.

And I think, hopefully it does, but I think it suits my game. “Hopefully that good run I had can continue because I played some great stuff. I feel like I have unfinished business for this year, great golf but didn’t get a win.

So I’m still looking at trying to correct that. “The win would be nice, but I think deep down it’s more satisfying and there’s more gratification playing the golf I’ve played recently and not getting a win than sneaking one.”
