Derby County coach Steve McClaren has admitted he is determined to finish the job he started after returning to the club on Wednesday.
The former England manager took over the reigns at Derby in September 2013 and nearly achieved promotion to the Premier League on two occasions before being sacked in May 2015.
He was quickly appointed by Newcastle United despite losing in the play-offs with Derby but he was then sacked by the Magpies following their dreadful start to the campaign.
Derby were expected to fight for the Championship title at the start of the season, but the Rams sacked Nigel Pearson after just five months in charge.
After days of speculation, McClaren has finally returned to the iPro Stadium and he insists his sole target is achieving promotion.
He told the club’s official website: “I am excited to be back at Derby County as the club’s manager.
“I have a great affiliation with the club, having been here on three previous occasions, and I am really delighted at the prospect of finishing what we started back in September 2013.
“I regret how my time at Derby ended back in 2015 and I am very motivated to put things right for the club and our supporters. “My ultimate aspiration remains exactly what it was before, to take Derby County back to the Premier League.”
McClaren’s first match back in charge of the club will be against Leeds United on Saturday.
Derby sit just two points above the relegation zone but they are the 1.75 favourites to be the Whites this weekend. The draw is priced at 3.50, while Leeds are available at odds of 4.75.
