McLaren star Fernando Alonso has demanded more consistency in Formula One’s rules going forward after numerous changes this season.
Some rules have been changed or dropped all together this year, including the new elimination-style qualification format. That new rule lasted just two races before numerous complaints caused the ruling to be changed.
Team radio rules and track limits have also been changed and Alonso believes this should not happen in the future.
Several drivers have hit out at the rule changes in recent races but the two-time world champion is adamant the sport will be better off with clearer guidelines that are adhered too.
He told ESPN: “Definitely it is not the normal way for our sport to keep changing rules. Most of the time we go back to what we had two weeks ago, two months ago, two years ago.
“So we just wait and listen to the engineers, the team, what we are allowed to do, what we are not allowed to do every session, every qualifying, every race and that has been more or less the same thing for the last three or four months, because they keep changing all the time.
“We are always in a loop and from a driver point of view, we just try to be on the side of all these changes because we don’t make them and we don’t have these decisions in our hands.
“Hopefully now we can find some consistency but, for us, it is not a problem because it is our job but for the fans and the viewers it would be nice to have some consistency.”
