Great Britain’s Jessica Ennis-Hill has admitted she still does not know if she will retire after she won a silver medal in the heptathlon at the Rio Olympics.

The Sheffield athlete was hoping to become the first British woman to defend an Olympic title but she was eventually beaten by Belgium Nafissatou Thiam.

The 21-year-old secured gold by producing five personal bests from seven events and she eventually beat Ennis-Hill by 35 points.

Canada’s Brianne Theisen-Eaton claimed the bronze medal while Britain’s other competitor Katarina Johnson-Thompson was forced to settle for sixth this time around.

Ennis-Hill could now decide to walk away from the track following a difficult few months.

After giving birth to her son Reggie two years ago, the 30-year-old has admitted she is now a mother first and an athlete second.

She decided to skip the Team GB holding camp ahead of the Games to spend more time with her family and the two-time world champion admits she needs a break before making a decision.

“I’ve just got to make a decision as to whether this is my last heptathlon or not,” she told reporters.

“I’m so proud of what I’ve achieved in the last few years. I’ve got to have a think.

I’m going to get home and see Reggie and (husband) Andy and have a holiday, a break and switch off and relax, I can’t wait.”
