Celtic have confirmed they have completed the signing of goalkeeper Dorus de Vries after he signed a two-year deal with the Scottish champions.

The former Dunfermline stopper had a medical in Glasgow on Friday night but he agreed terms on Saturday before the club announced his move.

He will bring a wealth of experience to Celtic after a number of spells in the Championship, most recently with Nottingham Forest.

De Vries spent three years with Forest but his four-year spell at Swansea made him a household name in Wales. He played 181 games for the Swans and worked with Celtic coach Brendan Rodgers during his time with the Premier League outfit.

Rodgers admits he is delighted to have secured the deal and De Vries will now compete with Craig Gordon for the No.1 spot.

“Dorus is one that I obviously know very, very well from my time at Swansea,” he told Sky Sports.

“And I like to have a goalkeeper that can be comfortable with his feet, so when you have the ball you have 11 players as opposed to ten players and a goalkeeper.

“He gives a different dimension to how we want to work, and he’s coming here to challenge to be number one.

So I think it’s an excellent signing for us.” The 35-year-old will now go straight into the squad for Wednesday’s Champions League first-leg playoff tie against Hapoel Beer Sheva at Celtic Park.

Rodgers’ side can be backed at odds of 1.62, while the draw is priced at 3.75, with Hapoel available at 5.50.
