Lewis Hamilton says he aims to end the season on a high and has not given up hope of pipping Sebastian Vettel to victory in some of the remaining races.
Vettel has won the last four grands prix and could wrap up the world championship if he makes it five in Japan this weekend, and Fernando Alonso finishes ninth or worse.
However Hamilton is looking to upset the party and is targeting victory even though history suggests he will struggle at the track.
The same does not apply to the Red Bull team, who have been the quickest in previous years, and Hamilton thinks they will be again this weekend.
However Hamilton is not giving up and hopes to give the world champion a run for his money.
“This is definitely one I would love to win,” said Hamilton. “The first sector is the most challenging and critical, but the Red Bull has been the quickest there over the last four years and I anticipate they will be the quickest there again.
“But I hope that our strong showing in the second sector at Korea will correlate here. So fingers crossed. We’ll see, but I hope we can give the Red Bulls a close race. I haven’t given up. We just need a weekend to go our way.
“I’ve not had any good races here and I really hope this will be a new start for me here.”
