Felipe Massa has confirmed talks are ongoing with Lotus as he attempts to get himself fixed up with a new team for the 2014 season.

The Brazilian’s eight-year spell with Ferrari will come to an end once the current season is over after it was last week confirmed that Kimi Raikkonen will take his place.

It was thought that Massa would have plenty of options for 2014 but that appears not to be the case and the driver will have to bide his time.

A switch to Lotus, where he would effectively be swapping seats with Raikkonen, looks to be the best bet at this stage and Massa admits talks are ongoing.

“We are negotiating,” Massa revealed. “In my opinion the Lotus has a very competitive car, which is what I want. It is a team with a very important story in Brazil as well.

“We are having many conversations to try find a way for not only me but also Lotus to continue with a good car.”

Ferrari, Red Bull and Mercedes have all confirmed their teams for next season but Lotus have yet to do so and there is a good chance Massa could be signed up.

McLaren are expected to retain Jenson Button and Sergio Perez, but Massa has also hinted the Woking team could be an option.

“I have had contact with McLaren. I can’t judge… it’s hard to say… with Lotus the contact has been very good,” the Brazilian added.
