Former Real Madrid forward Kaka believes Zinedine Zidane will be desperate to secure the La Liga crown for Los Blancos this season.

Real have won a record 32 Spanish titles but they have not taken the top domestic prize since 2012. Since then Barcelona have won La Liga on three occasions and Atletico Madrid have taken the title once.

La Liga returns this weekend, with Real set to open their account at Real Sociedad on Sunday, and Kaka believes they can end their wait for league glory this season.

Zidane guided the Bernabeu outfit to the Champions League title last season and Kaka feels the club may prioritise the league this term as they bid to end Barcelona’s recent dominance.

“I think when you win the Champions League, you’re on top of the world. It’s the most important championship,” he told Omnisport.

“But of course, this year, Madrid are going to try and win everything they can because they need to win.

“It’s been a few years since Madrid won LaLiga, so Zidane will try and win the league because they won the Champions League already.”

He added: “He [Zidane] has respect from everybody because he won everything as a player and as a coach he guided them to the most important championship [the Champions League].

“I think now he wants to win the league. Of course if he can, he will try to win everything, the three titles. This is the most important thing in Spain if you can win all three championships that’s perfect.”

Real are 1.75 to win at Sociedad on Sunday or 2.50 to win the La Liga title. Barcelona are 1.70 to win the league outright and Atletico can be backed at 11.00.
