Barcelona manager Xavi Hernandez has stated that Barcelona’s title defence charge is still recoverable if the team can avoid making mistakes. The Spanish manager said this in his pre-match conference ahead of Wednesday’s home tie against Almeria.

The Blaugrana are already nine points behind table-topping Girona, who defeated Alaves 3-0 on Monday evening to go two points clear of Real Madrid in second place.

Barcelona have been on a poor run of late, winless in their last three games in all competitions, losing two and only avoiding defeat in their last La Liga game, a 1-1 draw away at Valencia.

Barcelona have lost 3-2 to Antwerp in the last UEFA Champions League group stage game and a 4-2 loss to Girona in the La Liga. These results have left criticism on Xavi and his team and also left a dent in their title defence in La Liga.
“I see it as recoverable. We have to avoid making mistakes ourselves. Our errors are costing us. The Valencia game was one to win convincingly. We need to end the first dez half of the season positively and have a better second half. Girona and Madrid are not making mistakes, so we need to take it game by game. We’ve stumbled, but we’ll fight for everything. We can get back on track, and our time will come. If we keep missing, it’s going to get very complicated, but we’ll fight for all the titles.” Xavi said.

The game against Almeria is Barcelona’s last home La Liga game of the year 2023, although they would face Mexican side Club America in a friendly match in their final match of the year before returning for the New Year in January with another La Liga clash against Las Palmas.

Barcelona finished top of their UEFA Champions League group and have been paired with Italian side Napoli in the round of 16 of the competition.
