Brighton winger Jose Izquierdo is hoping to achieve his dream of appearing at a World Cup but must impress Colombia boss Jose Pekerman after being named in the provisional squad.

The winger joined the Seagulls from Club Brugge last summer and he was heavily involved in their successful Premier League campaign.

He played a key role in helping them to beat the drop, netting five times in 32 outings, and his performances caught the eye of Pekerman.

Izquierdo only made his international debut in June 2017 and has gone on to win four caps for the South American nation.

Pekerman has named a provisional 35-man squad ahead of friendly fixtures with Egypt and Italy and will have to whittle his travelling party down to 23 by June 4.

The Brighton man faces plenty of competition in the forward line but is hopeful he can secure a spot.

Izquierdo said: “I like to always contribute to the team with speed. I’ve learned to defend in the league where I’m playing, I’ve improved a lot and I think that’s what I can contribute to the national team.”

Colombia, who are priced at 2.25 to win Group H, have been drawn alongside Poland, Senegal and Japan.
